Ephesians 5:23 ESV “For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”

I wonna focus on the phrase, “even as,” in the passage above. This verse is loaded with superpowers and responsibilities for believing husbands. I don’t think most men fully understand them including myself. So I’m gonna do my best to expound on this. The husband is the head of the wife, “even as,” Christ is the head of the church scripture says. Wow! That’s some authority! And for believing husbands gifts from the Holy Spirit come with that power. Let me illustrate: I was once married to a woman who was demon-possessed. I was a new believer at the time. I remember reading the passage below and believed it. It says:
Mark 16:17-18 LEB “And these signs will accompany those who believe: IN MY NAME THEY WILL EXPEL DEMONS, they will speak in new tongues, 18 they will pick up snakes. And if they drink any deadly poison it will never hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and ⌊they will get⌋ well.”
The Lord led me through Bible study, prayer, and fellowship to an interesting conclusion. That as the head of my wife, “even as,” Christ is the head of the church, I can be used to cast demons out of her. And she doesn’t have to ask me to be delivered any more than Mary Magdalene had to ask Jesus for 7 demons to be expelled from her. (Luke 8:1-2) One night my wife was lying down. I looked at her and firmly commanded Satan to leave her and my home in the name of Jesus. That night my wife was delivered. She told me while I was saying this she couldn’t move and felt something leave her. She was a different person after that. Yes, a husband who truly believes God’s word can be used by God to heal his wife or anyone of sickness, disease, demon possession, etcetera. No special religious title is needed to operate in God’s gifts given to all believers. (Matthew 10:7-8)
I know a man whose wife had a terrible toothache. It was driving her mad it seemed. For 3 days she was in so much pain. Money was low and they had no insurance to see a doctor. The Holy Spirit led the husband to call on Dr. Jesus. The man got alone in a corner of his bedroom and earnestly prayed to God to heal his wife. As soon as he finished praying his wife walked into the room holding her jaw. She looked amazed and said, “You prayed for me, didn’t you?” He nodded, “Yes,” with a huge smile. She smiled back and they praised God together. She was healed! All the pain went away. Thanks to Dr. Jesus!😊
The husband is his wife’s covering or extra hedge of protection. The man has a special place in the marriage relationship I don’t think most men care to understand. How sad. Hence our families are suffering. If the head is sick what happens to the rest of the body? God says, ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.’ (Hosea 4:6) Being the head of your wife, “even as,” Christ is the head of the church is a servant’s role that includes Holy Spirit super powers/gifts. Use the gifts God has given you (men). May we husbands repent and learn to be the man God created us to be. Our families need us to fulfill our God-given destinies.
