Fear Is A Horrible Thing

Fear Is A Horrible Thing

1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Fear has to do with punishment or judgment. Can you imagine the fear that gripped Adam and Eve after they sinned? (Genesis 3:1-19) This was a feeling they had never experienced before. It had to be horrible knowing that you blew it in such a big way. Then having to live out the remainder of your life with that knowledge while growing old, getting sick, etcetera, and eventually dying.😥

Fear is not our friend. It’s as if fear mocks us after we’ve done wrong and horrifies us.👹 On the other hand Love is our friend.😊 Perfect love drives out all fear. Love is treating God and others as we would want to be treated. Love always does what is right. Hence there is no fear in love, and because no laws are broken there is no terror of judgment or punishment. Instead love upholds God’s law:

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS DEPEND ALL THE LAW and the Prophets.”

The person who lives by the 1st and 2nd greatest commandment you just read will not live in fear. Yet because none of us are without sin fear creeps up on all of us sometimes. We all fall short of God’s law. (Romans 3:23-24) But those who love God will always repent.

Wonna live life without fear relatively speaking? The remedy is to live a life of godly love.😊 Learn what it means to love God’s way. Devote yourself to loving God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. As our love grows so will our knowledge, insight, wisdom, courage, and every other good quality. Love is God and God is love. (1 John 4:8) Love is the most powerful thing in all the universe!😃 Love destroys fear!

Philippians‬ ‭1:9-11‬ ‭KJV “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Is Laziness A Sin?

2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭ASV‬‬ “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Is Laziness A Sin?

God takes laziness seriously. So should we:

2 Thessalonians 3:11-15 KJV “For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, WORKING NOT AT ALL, but are BUSYBODIES. [12] Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. [13] But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. [14] And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, NOTE THAT MAN, and HAVE NO COMPANY WITH HIM, that he may be ashamed. [15] Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.”

Wow; we are told not to even associate with lazy people who refuse to work so that they will feel ashamed. Yet we’re not to regard them as an enemy but warn them as we would a fellow believer. (Galatians 6:1-2) So is laziness a sin? You bet it is.

Laziness is frowned on throughout God’s word. Here are a few passages:

1 Timothy 5:8 KJV “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”

Proverbs 10:4 ESV “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”

Proverbs 12:24 NLT “Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.”

Proverbs 20:4 KJV “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.”

Proverbs 6:6 NIV “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!”

As you can see nothing good comes from being lazy. Let’s hate this sin for what it is. And if anything causes us to be lazy like over eating, or heavy drinking, etcetera, how can these be any good?🤔 Think about it: Jesus says you can tell if something or someone is good or bad by the fruit it bears. (Luke 6:43-45)

Is there anything in your life that causes laziness? Confess it to God, ask for His forgiveness, and repent. The Lord is always ready to forgive. (1John 1:7-10) What use to make me lazy was smoking weed. That’s right, for years after becoming a Christian I struggled with smoking marijuana. One of the things that finally helped me stop was the Holy Spirit convicted me of how lazy I would get after smoking weed. Laziness is sin y’all. So anything that causes it can’t be good either. Once I admitted to God I had a problem and I needed His help He helped me repent. (Proverbs 28:13) And why was I smoking weed? To forget about life’s problems. I hadn’t yet learned how to do that through prayer, fellowship with other believers, and study of God’s word. This is the only real way to deal with the troubles of this life. If we come to Jesus with our problems He promises:

Matthew 11:28-30 RSV “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Let us avoid laziness and anything that causes it:

Luke 21:34 GNT “Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch you.”

The Desires Of Your Heart

Psalm 37:4 NIV “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

The Desires Of Your Heart

Does God give people the desires of their hearts? He certainly does. Though they may not come exactly when we want them to. But when it does it is like a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12) God wants us to rejoice in Him. He desires that we enjoy life even now in this wicked world:

Ecclesiastes 3:11-13 NLT “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. [12] So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. [13] And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.”

Those who love God will experience pleasures in His presence forever! David wrote about God:

Psalm 16:11 NIV “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

What a time that will be, when we experience nothing but joy in the presence of Almighty God FOREVER!!!

Again, we can have joy right now because joy is part of the fruit of God’s Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) Did you know that for the believer the joy of the Lord is our strength? That’s what it says at Nehemiah 8:10. If we can find reasons to be thankful and rejoice when things are going bad we will definitely be glad when they are going well. A merry heart has a continual feast:

Proverbs 15:15 KJV “All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.”

Don’t let no one or no thing steal your joy. Rejoice in the Lord always, when times are good and when they are bad. The only way we can do this is to have a healthy relationship with God. We must study His word (Isaiah 26:3), fellowship with other believers when we can (Psalm 133:1-3), and pray to God regularly (Romans 12:12). This will give us the right outlook and a merry heart. And God will give you the desires of your heart.

He Hears Us

He Hears Us

Psalm 86:5-9 NLT “O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. [6] Listen closely to my prayer, O LORD; hear my urgent cry. [7] I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me. [8] No pagan god is like you, O Lord. None can do what you do! [9] All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name.”

Yes, every human being will one day know and praise God!😊 This is not just a figment of the imagination this is God’s plan:

Habakkuk 2:14 KJV “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”

Before that happens we face real struggles in this life. When you read Psalm 86:5-9 it appears that David celebrates God’s readiness to forgive, His unfailing love, and the fact that He hears our prayers. He acknowledges that no pagan god can do what our God does. The gods pagans worship can’t even be compared with our God. They are actually demons who want to be worshipped:

1 Corinthians 10:20 GNT “No! What I am saying is that what is sacrificed on pagan altars is offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be partners with demons.”

These false gods are snares to those who worship them. They have no saving power!

Almighty God; OUR GOD, on the other hand is good, full of love and mercy, and is always ready to forgive. How often we should be praying to Him!🙏

David was a praying man, a humble man, a man who knew how to repent and praise God. No wonder he was a man after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22) I don’t know about you but I want God to view me the same way He viewed David.😊 If you want the same it behooves us to do the things David did: have a good healthy relationship with the Lord, always thanking Him and talking to Him in prayer, and praising His Holy name. We must also be repentant when we see our sins just as David was. And be careful to obey the Lord’s word. Our God hears us when we do this!😊 We can talk to Him about anything. We can call on Him when trouble strikes. The Lord will calm our fears! Who else can we call on like our God? No one else!

Psalm 56:3 NIV “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”😁
